Response to “Interprofessional Education in Health Informatics (IPEHI) for Health Sciences Programs” [Letter]

We are really interested in the article entitled “Interprofessional Education in Health Informatics (IPEHI) for Health Sciences Programs” because it has advantages, namely: 1) further introducing interprofessional education in health informatics in health sciences programs, which is useful for curriculum development and preparation of knowledge and skills for students; 2) provide a basis for developing IPEHI courses, so that clear guidance is obtained for institutions in implementing them; 3) shows the significant benefits of IPEHI in increasing students’ knowledge about health informatics and its impact on the health service system; 4) opens the door for further research to evaluate the effectiveness of this approach in improving student knowledge and skills and patient care outcomes.¹ With these advantages, this research makes an important contribution to understanding the importance of IPEHI and provides guidance for educational institutions to implement this approach.

However, we note that this study only involved university students. Although student involvement in this study is important to understand their perspectives on the need and benefits of IPEHI, to get a more comprehensive information, the involvement of other respondents can also be taken into consideration. The involvement of other respondents, such as lecturers, health practitioners, or other stakeholders, can provide different insights and complement student perspectives.² For example, lecturers can provide views on curriculum and educational requirements, health practitioners can share their experiences in using health information technology, and other stakeholders can provide perspectives on the needs and challenges in implementing IPEHI.

Therefore, we recommend that further research be conducted involving diverse respondents, in order to obtain a more complete perspective, strengthen the findings, and help inform the development of an IPEHI program that is more holistic and relevant to the needs of all stakeholders.
