![Noteworthy comment: Sleeping sickness (African trypanosomiasis, or HAT) is a disease that lacks many good treatment alternatives. The work described in this paper is derived from a large scale surveillance of NECT treatment of sleeping sickness. The study shows that NECT is an effective treatment in that few relapse cases were reported in the treated population. While side effects were common, most were not serious and resolved. Compared to previous treatment regimens, NECT provided a better treatment outcome with fewer severe adverse events. This study solidifies the use of NECT as the treatment of choice for second stage HAT.](assets/img/article_icons/noteworthy.png)
