![Noteworthy Comment: The incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) is typically compared with a reference value to support the cost-effectiveness of a decision. One method for estimating this value is to estimate the willingness-to-pay (WTP) for a quality-adjusted life-year (QALY). ![Noteworthy Comment: Few studies have evaluated the impact of pneumonia on healthcare resource utilization and costs in this population. This study demonstrated elevated healthcare resource use and costs in patients with COPD after acquiring pneumonia compared to those without pneumonia. By reducing the risk of pneumonia in patients with COPD wherever possible, significant benefits to patients with COPD and the resulting savings to our healthcare system can be realized.](assets/img/article_icons/noteworthy.png)

![Noteworthy Comment: This study estimates hospital cost the first 48 postoperative hours for the intravenous patient-controlled analgesia (IV PCA) with opioids for 3 inpatient surgeries. Descriptive analyses using the Premier database (2010~2012) of >500 US hospitals were conducted on cost [direct acquisition and indirect cost (labor, pharmacy, etc.)] of IV PCA after total knee/hip arthroplasty (TKA/THA) or open abdominal surgeries. Although there is variation between different surgeries, hospital cost of IV PCA after major surgeries are substantial. Novel technology should demonstrate cost-effectiveness in addition to clinical superiority.](assets/img/article_icons/noteworthy.png)

![Noteworthy Comment: This study suggests that patients treated with opioids for chronic, non-cancer pain commonly endure constipation symptoms that limit their activities of daily living, work productivity, overall HRQL, and, in some cases, impair their ability to manage their pain effectively, while adhering to approaches to treat OIC that provide little relief. The mean EQ-5D Index found in this study indicates a lower level of HRQL functioning than those found in samples of patients with chronic pain alone or other chronic medical conditions.](assets/img/article_icons/noteworthy.png)

![Noteworthy Comment: The objective of this paper was to perform a systematic review of the literature to identify ischemic heart disease (IHD) studies reporting Seattle Angina Questionnaire (SAQ) scores in order to apply a mapping algorithm to convert these to preference based scores for secondary use in economic evaluations. In this review the authors provided a catalogue of estimated health utility scores across a wide range of disease severity and following various interventions in patients with IHD. The catalogue of EQ-5D scores idetified can be used in IHD related economic evaluations.](assets/img/article_icons/noteworthy.png)
