Molecular and Cellular Mechanisms of Hypersensitivity

Hypersensitivity refers to abnormal or exaggerated immune responses against an antigen or allergen. There are several types of hypersensitivity, each classified by the types of antigens and immune responses involved. Allergic disease alone affects more than one billion people worldwide, and its prevalence is anticipated to reach up to 4 billion in the 2050s. The avoidable indirect costs of failure to treat allergy in the EU alone are estimated to range between 55 and 151 billion Euros per annum. This Article Collection focuses on the molecular and cellular mechanisms of hypersensitivity reactions.
